Why do people move? What makes them uproot and leave everything they've known for a great unknown beyond the horizon? Why climb this Mt. Everest of formalities that makes you feel like a beggar? Why enter this jungle of foreignness where everything is new strange and difficult?
-Life of Pi

I just re-read "The Alchemist" by Paolo Coelho.

This is what really spoke to me this time around as I'm on this Peace Corps adventure:

What is a personal calling? It is God's blessing, it is the path that God chose for you here on Earth. Whenever we do something that fills us with enthusiasm, we are following our legend.

There are 4 Obstacles:
  1. Those that tell us "it's impossible."
  2. Love: We are afraid of hurting those we love by abandoning everything to pursue our dream. However, love enables us to take risks and move forward. Those who genuinely love us want us to be happy and are prepared to support us on our journey.
  3. Fear of defeat. The path of your personal calling is no easier than any other path, except that our whole heart is in the journey. We warriors of light must be prepared to have patience in difficult times and to know that the Universe is conspiring in our favor. When we overcome defeats, we are filled with a greater sense of euphoria and confidence. … We are proving ourselves worthy of the miracle of life. We start to live with enthusiasm and pleasure.  Intense unexpected suffering passes more quickly than suffering that is apparently bearable.
  4. The fear of realizing our dream: We feel guilt for getting what we want and forget about the obstacles we overcame to get there… all the things we had to give up in order to get this far.
…You become an instrument of God, you help the Soul of the World, and you understand why you are here.

Because I know the things I should be able to accomplish, and I don't want to do so."

When you want something all the universe conspires to help you achieve it.

I can always go back to being a Shepard...but maybe ill never have another chance to get to the pyramids in Egypt.

Making a decision was only the beginning of things. When someone makes a decision he is really diving into a strong current that will carry him to places he had never dreamed of...

Find your oasis to rest and be rejuvenated on the journey of your personal legend.

This one is from "The Life of Pi"

This was to a struggling friend but I realized I should listen to my own advice as I stress about saving the world.

Who we wish to be, we already are! It's a matter of letting our choices, actions, and interactions with others reflect our true selves.
